Reed to Host Telephone Town Hall Meeting on Monday
2/21/2010

Lawmaker will discuss state budget, economy and other hot topics

At 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana) will host an hour-long telephone town hall meeting with constituents from the 62nd Legislative District.

“This format allows people to participate in the governing process from the comfort of their own homes,” Reed said.  “For some senior citizens with limited mobility or young families who would have to hire a babysitter for the night, a traditional town hall meeting simply isn’t convenient.  We’re trying to make it easier for folks to hear what’s going on and get answers for their questions.”

Most residents should receive a phone call around 7 p.m. on the night of the telephone town hall meeting.  To participate, they should remain on the line until the meeting begins.

This will be the second telephone town hall meeting Reed has held in as many years.  In April 2009, Reed held a telephone town hall meeting that attracted more than 1,500 participants from the 62nd Legislative District.

During that hour-long 2009 meeting, Reed touched on a variety of issues, including the state budget, the deregulation of Pennsylvania’s electricity markets and the exploration for and harvesting of natural gas in the Marcellus Shale.

Several callers during the 2009 telephone town hall meeting voiced their appreciation of the new format and thanked Reed for conducting the event.

“We had a great response from last year’s telephone town hall meeting, so we figured we’d try it again,” Reed said.
